The Flash Season 3 Finale Thoughts - Spoiler Alert

WARNING: SPOILERS ARE IN THE POST BELOW

The Flash season finale left its viewers with lots of think about during the summer months.

First off, it wasn't much of a surprise Iris West ended up living. With how popular of a character she is, it would not have made sense to kill her off from the show due to it possibly creating a ratings dip (see my post from last week on this). Iris's character has been a key part to lots of the stories in season three and the show needs her character.

As for HR dying, with how many different doppelgangers actor Tom Cavanaugh plays on the show, it made sense for HR to be written off. Cisco often found HR to be worthless at times and Dr. Harrison Wells seems to be a better fit for the show and Team Flash in future seasons. HR added depth to the show but it was apparent the producers wanted to move on from the character with his death.

Killer Frost ended up saving Team Flash in the final battle with Savitar near the end but it is unclear if she will return as Caitlin Snow or Killer Frost in season four. When attending HR's funeral, she mentioned she was neither Caitlin Snow or Killer Frost and needed time to think things over.

Seeing how her character has played a huge role within the Arrowverse, it is anyone's guess as to how the character will be portrayed in season four. The producers could easily have her as a regular villain on Legends of Tomorrow like they did with Captain Cold. Either that or they could use it as Flash story where Team Flash has to rehabilitate her. The producers probably aren't even sure what they want to do and left it open.

At the end, with Savitar gone, the Speed Force needed an occupant and Barry volunteered to go. Barry felt he was responsible due to the other circumstances he created with Flashpoint and volunteered to go instead of having Wally West or Jay Garrick go.

Considering the storylines in The Flash can get complicated, this isn't much of a surprise for a cliffhanger. Had Barry not gone into the Speed Force, the only story the viewers would have to look forward to would be Barry and Iris's wedding. DC storylines are known for throwing curves at unexpected moments and this was definitely a curveball. Garrick has made it clear the Speed Force needs an occupant in earlier episodes and Barry volunteered to save Central City.
